SolidSpace lights up the holiday season by donating web hosting services to controltheshow.com
On, off, on, off, dance the lights, as people all around the world control the holiday lights of a cheerful home sponsored by SolidSpace, LLC in Winston-Salem, NC.
Winston Salem, NC (PRWEB) December 4, 2007- --Always on the look out for exciting technology and new ways to give back to their Winston-Salem, NC community, SolidSpace, a leading provider of dynamic web hosting infrastructure and developer of intuitive web-based collaborative technologies, jumped at the chance to sponsor a holiday light show that encompasses brilliant ingenuity, homemade technology, the Internet and an important local charity.
Controltheshow.com is an entertaining and interactive website that allows you to control the holiday lights strategically placed on local resident BJ Sintay's home, while watching the action via webcam. This Internet based control system was designed by Mr. Sintay's to intrigue minds and raise money for a local charity, The Ronald McDonald House of Winston-Salem. What started as a small collaborative project has quickly grown into an international media craze. With its growing popularity, the site received over 2 million hits per day during the December 2006 show season from around the world and has been featured in numerous local, national and international news stories.
As millions of people from around the world turn the lights on and off at the house on Old Plantation Circle, many people are also donating money to the Ronald McDonald House, a provider of a "home away from home" for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. Although the ability to control the holiday lights at your whim from 5 p.m. till midnight during the month of December is what attracts visitors to controltheshow.com, many leave the site having helped a family that is going through an arduous time.
On December 13, 2007, SolidSpace will be hosting the first annual "Rock the House Lights" event to aid controltheshow.com in raising money for the Ronald McDonald House. The event will showcase a new technology that Mr. Sintay has developed for the 2007 show, a cell phone control system. Wanting to surpass the current record of $900 raised in one night by past light controllers, SolidSpace will be creating a special light display for the Rock the House Lights event, featuring a 7-foot tall inflatable Ronald McDonald. Visitors are encouraged to keep the lights shining on the Ronald McDonald by making donations, which will help us achieve our fundraising goal of $1,500 on the night of the event. Visitors who make donations will be given a code to gain access to the controls of the special display. For more details about this event, visit www.controltheshow.com.
"Finding fun and inventive ways to support a charity can be a challenge," stated Andrea Rice, Chief Operating Officer of SolidSpace. "SolidSpace supports the local community and what better way to continue this support than by combining a tech savvy project and a fundraiser for a great charity. We hope to be a part of this for many years to come."
